For now these tech will be used in kalka shimla toy train and ooty kunnor toy train (AFAIK). 
These train will be helpful in area where providing electricity grid will be tough. Eg: In remote area of ladakh, electricity reach is bad and there is so much voltage fluctuations.

Mainly, having hydrogen train will be helpful for security purpose cause in modern warfare it is easy to shut down electricity substations by hacking or using EMP weapons.

This project is definitely the brain child of secretaries/DGM of railways who saw other countries doing hydrogen train in the past and had this dream of Indians also going it.

I can see valid concerns but I don't know why people are so skeptical to suggest not doing it altogether. I am fine even if it doesn't get wide adoption. At one hand we say so less of the GDP being spent on R&amp;D and when it is being used we are so concerned about tax payers money and now everyone of us wants to dictate how it should be spent. I don't think every penny spent on R&amp;D is going to bear fruitful results. As they say in trading, you only have to win a few times to get rich.

Whatever happens with this, but I think a few more people will learn and get hands-on experience with hydrogen fuel cells and what not. Being hopeful, I think those people will be able to help with their experience where it may be more useful.

Idea is better for trucks.

Its more economical to just use the hydrogen in power plants and supply electricity to the track.
 Why waste money in safety testing of locomotive and transport mechanism to deliver hydrogen when we can already use the transmission lines.

Alternate fuel ideas took a backtrack here because we are more likely to see 100% electrification of Indian railways before going through all the hassle of making alternate fuel.

This is also why the dual fuel loco project got shelved after one loco was made

More so, hydrogen is the smallest molecule. It is hard to produce, costly and very hard to transport. Definitely not the future.

Hydrogen is a very energy intensive process to create, and if it don’t use solar/wind/tidal power for that then you’re not really saving anything anywhere. If you’re using nuclear then you’re the greenest possible.

I’ll bet there’s just 40 smoke plumes from oil burners to power the hydrogen generation process, though.

Why? Trains run by electricity are better than hydrogen powered. We don't naturally produce hydrogen, we convert hydrogen from water through electricity. Instead of going through this conversion, why not simply use electricity??

Here is what is going to happen. The train will be delayed a lot then launched but it will be scrapped soon due to maintenance issues and other problems.

The money used for the train will then pulled into several pockets. No one to ask where did the money alloted go even though the project was cancelled.

This is useless. Electrifying normally is better any day. There is no other form of transport that is more efficient than a OHE/third rail powered electric train over land. Also hydrogen trains have much lower power limits and storing the gas is a headache. It makes sense fit shirt branch lines that only see a few trains per day, not for busy routes.
